Amadou Onana exit update shared at Everton amid Bayern Munich transfer development
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is the second or third-choice option on several clubs’ transfer lists this summer, according to Joe Thomas.
The Belgian midfielder has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park for much of the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting Bayern Munich are keen on his signature [Liverpool Echo, 26 June].
However, Liverpool Echo journalist Thomas believes the German giant’s move for Joao Palhinha may scupper Bayern’s move for Onana, admitting the Toffees are having to wait to see how the “dominoes fall”.
Speaking on The Royal Blue YouTube channel (8 July, 40:25) he said: “The way I look at Onana is from speaking to people that I speak to, it feels like Onana might be number two or number three on a lot of clubs’ list.
“He may not be their first choice, obviously Bayern like Palhinha and they’ve agreed on a deal for him now whereas for most of the summer, it looked like that would be in doubt and that may scupper any move for Onana if they have him.
“It’s waiting to see how all the dominos fall and I think that’s where Everton are with Onana at the minute as opposed to with Branthwaite where it feels like Everton have put their foot down and said treat us seriously on this.
“I think it’s more work work for someone to do to get to Branthwaite whereas I think the club would listen to enquiries over Onana and then go from there.”
Will Everton sell Amadou Onana during the summer transfer window at Goodison Park?
As Thomas suggested, it seems as though the Blues are willing to sell Onana this summer if anyone is actually willing to come in and match their asking price for the Belgian international this summer.
However, it does feel as though almost every club that has been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old has had another target they would prefer to sign ahead of him, as was the case with Bayern and Palhinha.
Ultimately, the Blues don’t have to sell Onana this summer as they have successfully managed to navigate the PSR deadline already. If they have to, they can wait until January or even next summer before needing to balance the books again.
Should the dominoes fall as Thomas has suggested, maybe then the midfielder’s exit could be accelerated over the coming weeks but at this moment in time, it doesn’t feel as though there will be any imminent movement.
