Manchester United hold internal Dominic Calvert-Lewin talks as Everton update emerges

Manchester United have discussed the signing of Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, according to The Athletic.

The online source reported [9 July] that the club have held internal talks over the possibility of signing either Calvert-Lewin or Brentford’s Ivan Toney as a striker option.

It is understood that, despite the Toffees striker’s injury record, Man United have noted that the player played 18 Premier League minutes more than Rasmus Hojlund last term.

Manchester United to turn attention to second Everton star

Football fans across the globe are very aware of the Red Devils’ active interest in 21-year-old Jarrad Branthwaite, who took the Premier League by storm last season.

However, despite making a new bid of £45million plus add-ons for the defender, it appears the Evertonians are set to turn down the offer as it does not reach their valuation [Fabrizio Romano].

In turn, Erik ten Hag’s men are now considering a move for 27-year-old Calvert-Lewin who has been a regular figure at Goodison Park since arriving from Sheffield United in 2016.

The forward has gone on to make 247 appearances for the Toffees, making a lasting impact on Merseyside, especially having helped Sean Dyche and his men to survive relegation last term.

Despite a long spell without scoring during the 2023/24 campaign, Calvert-Lewin finished the season with seven Premier League goals to his name, scoring four times in his final seven matches.

Everton
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is approaching the final 12 months of his current Everton contract.

Those could be his last actions in an Everton shirt. The striker has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer, the club could look to offload him.

His sale would also alleviate some concerns with PSR this summer, which could help strengthen the Toffees’ position on Branthwaite, though Amadou Onana is also being linked with a move away.

In other Everton news, an update has emerged on Dan Friedkin’s takeover completion time frame and whether it could yet impact the transfer window at Goodison Park.
