Scott McTominay transfer update emerges at Everton as Manchester United exit mooted

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay could emerge as a summer transfer target for Everton, according to the Daily Mail.

The outlet reported on its website on Monday (8 July) that both the Toffees and their Premier League rivals Fulham could opt to pursue a deal for the Scottish international during the transfer window.

United are understood to be reluctant to sell the 27-year-old midfielder, but he is understood to desire a regular place in the Red Devil’s first team having played a bit part over the last couple of seasons.

Selling McTominay would also represent pure profit for Erik ten Hag’s side as well as he is a product of the United academy, which would help them raise funds to comply with profit and sustainability rules.

Will Scott McTominay exit Manchester United amid Everton transfer speculation?

Manchester United and Everton haven’t seen eye to eye for much of the summer transfer window so far having reached a stalemate when the Red Devils bid to try and sign Jarrad Branthwaite earlier last month.

But a deal for McTominay could potentially appeal for all parties if the terms of the transfer aren’t too ridiculous. His work ethic and style would fit into Sean Dyche’s system, while he would also be guaranteed regular first-team football.

However, United won’t want to let him leave on the cheap and that could potentially prevent the Toffees from pursuing a deal, especially when they have more pressing issues to deal with at this time than midfield additions.

If Amadou Onana was to depart Goodison, maybe then the Blues would move quickly to try and prize the Scottish international away from Old Trafford. But at the moment, signing a new winger appears to be the top priority.

This could be one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks once the Euros and Copa America come to an end. If this deal does occur, it feels like it needs one or two dominoes to fall into place first to hurry it along this summer.
