Everton to raise funds with four sales amid Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin bids update
Everton could sell four first-team players to raise funds this summer and help avoid losing Jarrad Branthwaite, The Guardian reports.
According to the paper’s website on 9 July Kevin Thelwell could sanction the exits of star men Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as well as squad options Micheal Keane and Neal Maupay, during the transfer window, after rejecting a second bid from Manchester United for “outstanding” centre-back Branthwaite.
Bids are reportedly yet to arrive for any of the four, although multiple approaches have separately been reported by The Times (14 June) for Onana, while Calvert-Lewin was previously offered to Newcastle according to The Times (24 June).
Both the big-name pair are expected to leave this summer, with the Englishman reported to have now rejected the offer of a contract extension [TEAMtalk, 9 July].
Michael Keane and Neal Maupay could leave Everton
Sean Dyche’s squad was far from bloated when last season finished after little recruitment across the past few windows so any departures this summer need replacing.
Calvert-Lewin is one the manager would surely keep if given the choice but his contract situation likely makes it a sacrifice the club have to make while a reasonable transfer fee is still possible, and although Onana has the quality to build a team around he rarely looks quite as special in Dyche’s set up as he does for Belgium so makes some sense to cash in on.
Maupay spent last season on loan back at Brentford after his struggles at Goodison Park and is unlikely to be part of the considerations even if Calvert-Lewin leaves, with the likes of Armando Broja at Chelsea targeted for that eventuality.
How much of a market there is for the Frenchman remains to be seen however while the same could be said of Keane, although selling him would compound the exit of Ben Godfrey, who has already been sold to Atalanta, and likely require two new central defenders to arrive.

It would be beneficial from Thelwell’s perspective for anyone who must go to be sold sooner rather than later to give him maximum opportunity to source replacements and spend the transfer revenue.
Things can develop quickly during the window but if there have been no bids for any of the four, despite widespread interest in Onana and Calvert-Lewin, it could be the start of a frustrating situaton.
