Mason Holgate likely to quit Goodison Park for good in fresh Everton transfer update

Mason Holgate is set to leave Everton permanently this summer, according to Patrick Boyland.

Writing on The Athletic website (9 July), the journalist reports that the 27-year-old is “likely to depart” Goodison Park and follow fellow defender Ben Godfrey out of the club.

With Jarrad Branthwaite of interest to Manchester United too, Sean Dyche may enter the market for a new central defender although target Jacob Greaves is set to move to Ipswich instead.

Everton open to Mason Holgate transfer exit

There was always going to be a lot of change at Goodison Park this summer, and defence was certainly an area that was expected to see most of it.

But Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young both penned new contracts to stick around and with bids rejected for Branthwaite [The Times, 9 July], it looks more likely that we still stay than end up at Old Trafford.

But Michael Keane is a wanted man and after spending last season at two different clubs that weren’t the Toffees, it seems obvious that Sean Dyche doesn’t have Holgate in his plans for the 2024/25 campaign.

A permanent exit makes the most sense as he enters the final year of his contract, but a loan could end up becoming the most solution after his poor form in recent years.

Nobody will be sad to see him move on and if the cash brought in as a result of his exit allows the club to strengthen, then it can only be a good thing.

In other Everton news, the club have tabled a £16.8m bid for a new transfer.
