Dele Alli contract twist emerges for Everton at Goodison Park amid Tottenham talks

Everton would only need to pay Tottenham for Dele Alli if he was sold in the future, should he sign a new contract, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on Friday (12 July) that the midfielder is training with Sean Dyche’s side in pre-season, with a potential new deal on the cards to extend his stay at Goodison.

Reports suggest the Toffees are in talks with Spurs to renegotiate the terms of the transfer [Liverpool Echo, 12 July] as the agreement complicates Everton’s ability to extend his stay, but fees would only be paid if he completes a move away.

Writing on X, Myers said: “Dele training with the club with the potential of a new deal, Everton would only need to pay Spurs if, (once he’s signed a new contract with Everton), there is a future sale”

Will Everton re-sign Dele Alli after his summer Goodison Park release?

Dyche and the Toffees are clearly keen to keep Dele around Goodison Park beyond the start of pre-season otherwise they wouldn’t be making such an effort to try and tie the former England international down to a new deal.

But whether or not a new contract is offered to the 28-year-old will likely depend more on the legal aspect of the deal, rather than his performances or fitness during the early stages of the Toffees’ pre-season training.

If what Myers says is true and the Blues would only have to pay further fees to Tottenham if he completed a move away from Goodison, offering him new terms could well be a risk worth taking this summer.

Should the former Spurs man get back to his best, Everton would have an incredibly exciting talent in their ranks without having to pay a Premier League rival any more money for at least another 12 months or so.

Hopefully, the details of any potential agreement with Tottenham and contract can be ironed out quickly so a decision can be taken over Dele’s future sooner rather than later.
