Everton want to sign Omar Alderete as official offer update emerges in low-cost transfer race

Omar Alderete has emerged as an Everton transfer target amid competition from Sevilla, according to Versus in Paraguay.

Journalist Christian Pérez told Versus Radio on 11 July that the Getafe defender is wanted by both the Toffees and the Spanish club, with the latter having emerged into the frame very recently and potentially now making an official offer.

The Paraguay international has been at the Copa America with his country and scrored in their defeat by Brazil on 29 June.

He cost Getafe €4million [£3.36m] to turn his loan from Valencia into a permanent move last year and his club reportedly want a “good amount” to make their money back and let him go this summer.

Everton want new centre-back amid Jarrad Branthwaite interest

Alderete has been on the move frequently since arriving in Europe five seasons ago and it looks like he could make another switch this summer.

He has already played for Basel, Hertha Berlin, Valencia and now Getafe and the Toffees might have opened the door to a Premier League move.

The search for a new centre-back may have come while most of the focus is on Manchester United’s bids to sign Jarrad Branthwaite but is likely more relevant to the sale of Ben Godfrey to Atalanta and the uncertain futures of Michael Keane and Mason Holgate.

Alderete, 27, is not the first goalscoring centre-back from the Copa America to have emerged on the Toffees’ radar this summer, with a bid also made for former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez [Futbol Arena, 5 July].

Even if Getafe put a significant mark-up on Alderete’s asking price it would appear to be a relatively affordable deal for Everton and could allow for two central defensive options to be signed.

Keane and certainly Holgate surely need to move on so restocking behind Branthwaite and James Tarkowski with a low-cost 20-cap international with experience in multiple European leagues could make sense.

In other Everton news, a star England man is now expected to leave the Toffees this summer amid Premier League transfer interest.
