Amadou Onana contract details shared as Aston Villa haggle fee with Everton

Everton and Aston Villa are currently attempting to strike a deal for Amadou Onana worth £40million plus £5million in add-ons, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The Belgian journalist reported via his personal X account [13 July] that, with personal terms agreed between Villa and the midfielder, Onana is set to sign a five-year deal at Villa Park.

David Ornstein earlier broke the news on 13 July that the Villans are set to sign the 22-year-old for around £50million on a long-term deal, and those details have now been further clarified.

Everton set to lose Amadou Onana as Aston Villa deal close

The transfer fee is rather important after the Toffees signed Onana for £33m in the summer of 2022 [BBC Sport], especially when it comes to the state of PSR at Goodison Park.

While a move to Saudi Arabia would have provided the club with a better opportunity to make more profit, Onana made it clear that his main objective was to stay in the Premier League [Sacha Tavolieri].

The midfielder has big ambitions and, with Villa now competing in the Champions League next season, it was always going to be difficult to keep hold of him this summer.

However, the emerging news does have a silver lining. The Onana fee will make it much easier for the Toffees to turn down offers for Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the fear of PSR punishments not as concerning.

Though the club will have hoped to make more profit on the Belgian, almost £20m is not a bad financial boost at all, especially after the two Premier League points deductions last season.

It will certainly be tough for Sean Dyche and his team to fill the void left by Onana should his move to Villa Park go through, but there is still plenty of time left to find an ideal replacement this summer.
