Amadou Onana medical update as break emerges after Everton agree Aston Villa transfer fee

Amadou Onana will undergo a medical within a few days ahead of completing his Everton exit to Aston Villa, The Telegraph reports.

According to the paper’s website on 13 July the Belgian star will have tests done soon as his £50million move is in the final stages but only after a “short break” following his participation in Euro 2024.

The 22-year-old became a “priority target” for Unai Emery after the sale of Douglas Luiz to Juventus removed fears of breaching profit and sustainability rules.

David Ornstein in The Athletic first reported the imminent transfer, where personal terms are already agreed on a long-term deal at Villa Park for Onana and he is said to be keen to play for the Spanish manager.

Sean Dyche loses Everton midfielder to Unai Emery

Onana’s exit was expected during the transfer window so now that a deal is all-but-sealed it would be in all parties’ interests for the move to be concluded as quickly as possible.

There is unlikely to be any unexpected issue during the medical but if there were then the sooner it is discovered the better before Everton get too far down the road of planning how to spend the cash and lining up replacements.

Tim Iroegbunam has already made the opposite move to help bolster Sean Dyche’s midfield options after the departure of Andre Gomes after his contract expired.

But it looks like the talented Chelsea youngster Lesley Ugochukwu is being targeted to fill Onana’s space in the squad as a loan move is being lined up [Foot Mercato, 13 July].

Unai Emery

Lewis Dobbin was first sold to Villa last month to help relieve the Toffees’ own PSR fears while Dominic Calvert-Lewin will likely have to be sacrificed now he has rejected the offer of a new contract [TEAMtalk, 9 July].

Ben Godfrey was also cashed in on via a deal with Atalanta amid a combination of both the above factors after himself turning down an extension on Merseyside [HITC, 11 June].

So money will continue to come in but how much is made available to secure reinforcements remains to be seen.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are now in talks to sign their new “top target” of the transfer window.
