Aston Villa warned transfer hijack possible for Everton ace Amadou Onana

Alan Myers insists it is “always possible” another club could beat Aston Villa to the signing of Everton gem Amadou Onana.

Villa are very close to securing the services of the £50million rated midfielder [Fabrizio Romano, July 14], but several clubs have been previously interested.

With that in mind, Myers suggested that anything is possible until the deal is officially over the line.

Taking to X on Saturday (July 13), the transfer expert wrote: “Always possible until it’s done, there were a number of interested parties, but I would be surprised if he doesn’t end up with Villa, they’ve been after him a while now.”

Aston Villa very close to securing a deal with Everton for Amadou Onana

Villa are in advanced talks to sign Onana from Everton for around £50million. The 22-year-old midfielder, who played for Belgium at Euro 2024, would get the chance to play Champions League football next season with Villa.

Onana joined the Toffees from Lille in August 2022 for £33million and has made 72 appearances, scoring four goals. Despite interest from clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United, Villa’s offer meets Everton’s valuation [Liverpool Echo, June 14].

Villa are looking for a new midfielder after selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.35million last month. Onana, who started his career in Anderlecht’s academy and has also played for Hamburg and Hoffenheim, fits the bill.

In addition to Onana, Villa are also set to bring back Jaden Philogene from Hull for £18million. The young England winger is likely to sign a five-year contract, returning to Villa Park less than a year after leaving.

From Everton’s perspective, it is now pretty clear Onana will not be around for the final season at Goodison Park.

The only positive is that a fairly sizable sum has been landed and there is still plenty of time to bring in a replacement. The sooner this deal is concluded, the better for everyone involved.
