Everton in talks with Martin Braithwaite as Espanyol clause activated
Everton-linked forward Martin Braithwaite is available to sign on a free transfer after activating a clause in his Espanyol contract, according to Tipsbladet.
The Danish website reported on Monday (July 15) that Braithwaite, who helped Espanyol get promoted by scoring 22 goals last season, is now a free agent having informed the Spanish club of his decision.
In an official statement released on Monday (July 15), Espanyol confirmed he has chosen to exercise the clause and thanked Braithwaite for his professionalism and wished him luck in his future endeavours.
Tipsbladet named the Toffees as one of the clubs who were speaking to the former Barcelona forward, as well as fellow Premier League sides Southampton and Leicester City.
Everton could benefit from Martin Braithwaite addition
Everton’s pursuit of Braithwaite could be a smart move. The Danish striker has just activated a release clause, which Sport Witness said was triggered by paying his club a fee of around £500,000.
After a solid finish to last season, the Toffees are keen to bolster their attack, and Braithwaite, who scored 22 goals last season for Espanyol, fits the bill.
His experience across top leagues, including a decent stint at Barcelona, could bring valuable experience to the Toffees.

While he didn’t become a legend at the Nou Camp, his skills and talent are undeniable. Adding Braithwaite to Everton’s squad, especially at such a low cost, could provide the offensive edge they need to push further up the Premier League table.
In other Everton news, the transfer of a Toffees-linked defender is now inevitable with his club granting him permission for a medical.
