Everton make move to seal Weston McKennie transfer after new updates
Weston McKennie now looks set to leave Juventus in this transfer window with Everton one of the clubs interested, according to Tuttosport.
The Italian outlet reported on their website (15 July) that the Toffees and clubs in Saudi Arabia have looked to “survey” McKennie, following the collapse of his proposed switch to Aston Villa.
McKennie’s fate with Juventus is reportedly “sealed” and he has little chance of still being a Bianconeri player by the end of August, but the United States international is yet to agree on a move elsewhere.
Sean Dyche’s side could soon be in the open market for a central midfielder if and when Amadou Onana completes a transfer to Villa Park, and will hope to beat Saudi Pro League clubs to McKennie’s signature [Tutto Juve, 29 May].
Weston McKennie transfer could solve two problems for Everton
Onana bringing in a roughly £50million fee from Villa could prove to be vital in funding an overhaul of Dyche’s squad, but the Belgian international will leave a sizeable hole in the middle of the park.
McKennie’s consistent performances for Juventus, after a forgettable loan spell at Leeds United the season prior, do go some way towards suggesting that he could occupy that space on a regular basis.

However, he was often utilised as a wing-back and wide midfielder, suggesting that Dyche could play the American on the right-hand side in some capacity next season with a dearth of options at his disposal.
Only Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison are traditional ‘wingers’, while at right-back both Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman are beyond their mid-thirties and Nathan Patterson is continuing his comeback from injury.
With McKennie’s versatility likely to be crucial for how Dyche’s squad will look next season, beating Saudi Pro League clubs to is signature will be high on the Toffees’ agenda.
In other Everton news, the transfer of a Toffees-linked defender is now inevitable with his club granting him permission for a medical.
