Everton still want to sign Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto, transfer decision made

Everton are still interested in signing Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto this summer after their attempts last year, according to TEAMtalk.

Writing on their website (15 July), the news outlet reports that the Toffees still have the Italy international “high on their shortlist” this summer alongside Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom.

Gnonto wants to move to the Premier League this summer after Leeds failed to earn promotion, and his entourage expect him to move, with Newcastle also in the race for his signature.

Last summer a move to Goodison Park failed to materialise as Everton refused to match his £30million valuation [Sky Sports, 1 September 2023], and Leeds “won’t accept lower than £25million” this time around.

Everton to sign Leeds star Wilfried Gnonto?

Everton know that they need to strengthen their attacking department this summer, and Gnonto would be an ideal option to bring in.

Sean Dyche is clearly a big fan of the 20-year-old having made him a priority target last summer, but a deal just couldn’t quite get over the line.

However, with the need for the position to be strengthened still existing 12 months later, there is no reason why they wouldn’t revisit the deal considering he had a good campaign in the Championship last season.

Jack Harrison has already re-signed from Leeds and Iliman Ndiaye is also a new addition to the squad, but with Dominic Calvert-Lewin likely to leave [TBR, 13 July] during the window that opens up a spot.

Gnonto wants out and Leeds will be aware of that. After missing out on Jaden Philogene and cashing in on Amadou Onana to Aston Villa [Fabrizio Romano, 13 July], there will be money to spend and this is definitely one to watch.
