Amadou Onana to Aston Villa transfer set to be completed as 2nd Everton star now wanted

Amadou Onana’s Everton exit to Aston Villa is expected to be completed before the end of the week, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist indicated his belief via X on Monday 15 July that the Belgian midfielder’s transfer should go through within a matter of days amid interest from West Ham in striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

A deal worth around £50million is close to being agreed with the 22-year-old due to undergo a medical following a break after his participation in Euro 2024 [Telegraph, 13 July].

Myers also indicated that updates on Dan Friedkin’s takeover were unlikely to be imminent with the process still “ongoing” in the background.

West Ham want Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Onana’s exit isn’t set in stone yet as Myers admits “nothing definite on anything” but all the signs are that the latest major Everton exit is on the brink of going through now.

Losing a player of his quality is hardly cause for celebration on Merseyside but a big fee for a player who wasn’t making Sean Dyche’s starting XI towards the end of last season should be useful elsewhere.

The cash will help ease profit and sustainability concerns for the current period and should help Kevin Thelwell pursue more incoming deals this summer.

The same is true of a Calvert-Lewin exit which looks increasingly unavoidable now that he has reportedly rejected the offer to extend his contract which is inside the final 12months [TEAMtalk, 9 July].

But the striker would almost certainly be in Dyche’s preferred line-up if fully fit so if he is to leave it will be a blow.

Beto showed some positive signs last term and Armando Broja has been linked as a replacement from Chelsea [Lyall Thomas, 11 June] if West Ham, Manchester United or any other suitor does sign Calvert-Lewin.

But neither are arguably at the Englishman’s level if he performs at his best so someone will need to step up if he goes.

In other Everton news, English sides are battling to sign an homegrown Toffees product who has been let go by the club.
