Dele Alli update emerges from Everton pre-season training in Ireland

Dele Alli could soon join in with full pre-season training at Everton despite being out of contract, according to Shamoon Hafez.

The BBC journalist posted on X (18 July) that he was told the midfielder, whose existing deal at Goodison Park expired on 30 June, is currently training separately from the main group.

However, Dele isn’t too far away from joining up with the Toffees squad during their current camp in Ireland, as he continues his recovery from a long-term hip problem.

The former England midfielder failed to make an appearance in his last contracted season at Goodison Park, but has been allowed to continue training at Finch Farm and their Ireland-based camp [Joe Thomas, 15 July].

Is there a way back for Dele Alli at Everton?

Given he’s training with the club in pre-season with the upcoming campaign just a few short weeks away, it’s hard to see Dele pitching up in any shirt other than a blue one in the next few months.

Allowing him to continue his injury rehabilitation and training despite being out of contract is a good gesture on the club’s part, and may pave the way for Dele to eventually make a first-team return.

It remains to be seen how successful such a move would be, given the 28-year-old hasn’t played in over a year and failed to score in just 13 appearances for the Blues.

A recent development has seen the Toffees and Spurs reach an agreement to waive a fee that had previously been required had Dele signed a new deal at Goodison Park [Nizaar Kinsella, 13 July].

If Sean Dyche feels that the ex-England man would be a welcome addition to his side, regardless of how long his recovery takes, that agreement makes a move for the ex-England man much easier.

With Dele still seemingly a long way off from being ready for first-team contention yet though, the ball is firmly in an as-yet undecided Everton’s court [The Athletic, 16 July].
