Everton replacement for Amadou Onana mooted as terms agreed for transfer
Bryan King believes Everton will struggle to replace Amadou Onana after the Belgian signed for Aston Villa.
The ex-Goodison scout feels that the 22-year-old midfielder has been one of the club’s better players in recent years.
As confirmed via the Toffees’ official website on Monday (22 July), Onana has signed for Villa after just shy of two years at Goodison Park.
And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – claims replacing the player won’t be easy.
“This hands Everton a much-needed cash boost,” King said.
“However, it is alright to receive the money for the player, but he now needs to be replaced.
“That is going to be difficult because Onana has been one of their better players over the past couple of seasons. Now that he has gone, they need someone else in his position.”
Everton to struggle to replace Amadou Onana at Goodison Park
Onana’s stock quickly rose after signing for Everton from Lille.
He was linked to some of the biggest clubs in European football over the past year and is now set to play UEFA Champions League football under Unai Emery next season.
While his sale will help alleviate some of the Toffees’ financial worries, his position in the squad now needs filling.
If Sean Dyche wants to avoid another relegation battle, he will need to bring in a brand-new midfielder.
Therefore, the search for Onana’s replacement should already be well underway.
