Amadou Onana sale to fund Everton bid for Leeds United ace Wilfried Gnonto
Everton could fund a bid for Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto after Amadou Onana’s £50million move to Aston Villa, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The newspaper reported online [24 July] that, while no official approach has been made yet, the Toffees remain interested in the 20-year-old winger after being linked with a move last summer.
Leeds are expected to accept nothing less than £25million for the Italian youngster, according to TEAMtalk, with Everton being just one of 10 clubs interested in his signature [Caught Offside].
Everton to fund Wilfried Gnonto with Amadou Onana cash
While Onana is not a player the Toffees will have wanted to see leave this summer, holding so much potential as a 22-year-old, it could help fund multiple signings in different positions.
If the Merseyside club can seal the winger’s signature for around the £25m mark this summer, they will be left with similar funds left over after the Belgian’s move to Villa Park.
Gnonto became one of Daniel Farke’s most important players towards the end of the season after a difficult start to the 2023/24 campaign, so £25m seems like a no-brainer for the Evertonians.
Despite this, the Toffees’ current financial status is up in the air after Dan Friedkin pulled out of his takeover bid at Goodison Park, leaving the club back at square one in their pursuit of new ownership.
Everton insider Bryan King exclusively told Goodison News on 7 July that the takeover hit a “stumbling block” due to the money that was owed to 777 Partners.

It is understood, however, that Sean Dyche’s transfer business is unlikely to be affected this summer, which could see Gnonto finally seal his move away from Elland Road.
The Toffees will need to decide on what to do with the Onana money, whether they push funds into signing the Leeds winger or help balance the books after already suffering two points deductions last season.
