John Textor and Everton takeover update emerges as Crystal Palace sale edges closer

Everton-linked John Textor is now close to taking over the majority shares in another English club, according to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons.

The journalist posted on X [25 July] that whilst Textor is looking to sell his 45% stake in Crystal Palace, negotiations are taking place for the American to purchase over 80% in a fellow English club.

Aarons has clarified his belief that the Palace owner – whose for-sale shares in the Eagles have spiked the attention of 14 separate investors – has not been in contact with Farhad Moshiri or Everton as it stands, following the collapse of the Friedkin Group takeover.

Everton not in talks with Textor

As Moshiri is left reeling by the supposedly amicable end to the advanced takeover discussions with Dan Friedkin, Everton now assess their options once again – but Textor is thought not to be in the frame.

Toffees insider Alan Myers admits he would not be shocked to see the Lyon and Botafogo owner swoop back in and put his name in the hat, but it currently looks as if Textor will sell his Crystal Palace stake with relative ease and move to another Premier League outfit.

Premier League regulations deem investors prohibited from taking over controlling shares in more than one of its clubs simultaneously, meaning a sale at Selhurst Park must go through before another takeover is formally completed.

Whilst interest continues at Everton, a reported nine-figure offer has landed on Moshiri’s table from an unnamed bidder – this has been strongly touted to be the group led by the London-based Vatche Manoukian [Matt Slater, 19 July], although nothing is confirmed.

Developments regarding Textor are likely to accelerate in the coming days, with Moshiri needing to consider all options more carefully than ever before.
