Wilfried Gnonto transfer verdict emerges at Everton amid speculation deal is ‘dead’
Alan Myers has responded to a fan who has asked if a deal to bring Wilfried Gnonto to Everton is “dead” admitting he’s not “expecting it” to be completed.
The Toffees are reportedly keen to bring the Italian international to Goodison Park this summer, but Leeds United’s asking price for the attacker has seen the Blues cool their interest [Football Transfers, 29 July].
While Sky Sports journalist Myers insists “nothing is over till it’s over”, he appears to believe that it is unlikely the 20-year-old will join Sean Dyche’s side at this moment in time.
Replying to a fan on X on Monday (29 July) who asked: “Gnonto deal more or less dead?” Myers said: “Nothing is ever over till it’s over, but I’m not expecting it atm.”
Will Wilfried Gnonto exit Leeds United amid Everton transfer speculation?
It’s not often transfer sagas rumble on for two consecutive summer windows, but it doesn’t appear as though the speculation linking Gnonto with Everton is going to come to a head anytime soon this summer.
The Italian international would be an excellent addition to Dyche’s attacking ranks ahead of the new season, but the Blues are simply not in a position to be overpaying for players given the current ownership situation.
With Jesper Lindstrom already through the door, Everton have bolstered their wide options already this summer and they will almost certainly turn their attention to alternative targets in the coming weeks ahead of the deadline.
Hopefully, a new winger will arrive on Merseyside sooner rather than later so that they are ready to hit the ground running.
Who knows, Leeds’ asking price could change before the window slams shut at the end of August so there may be a twist or two left in this saga before the summer is over.
