Sky Sports share ‘Outlandish’ new Jarrad Branthwaite transfer update from Everton

Sky Sports reporter Vinny O’Connor has provided a new update on Jarrad Branthwaite’s future at Everton ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 22-year-old defender has fielded a lot of interest from European clubs this summer, with Manchester United seeing multiple bids rejected before signing Leny Yoro, 18, from Lille.

Despite the ongoing financial concerns at Goodison Park after Dan Friedkin’s takeover collapse last month, the distinguished reporter does not believe the Toffees are in a position to accept low-ball offers.

Speaking via Sky Sports on Thursday (1 August), O’Connor said: “I think Everton would be naive not to expect there to be more interest in Jarrad Branthwaite this summer, but what they aren’t in is a position where they have to accept low-ball offers.

“Manchester United have already tried this summer, offering £35million and then £45million, but Everton value him at upwards of £70million or £80million and you can see their reasoning.

“Manchester United paid £80million for Harry Maguire, Manchester City paid £77million for Gvardiol and Wesley Fofana went to Chelsea for £75million as well, so they value him around the same.

“When I spoke to Sean Dyche after the game against Coventry, I asked him if he expected Branthwaite to be with him for the whole of next season and he said they’ve spoken – it’s the scenario they envisage.

“Unless an outlandish offer is made, that Everton can’t refuse, Branthwaite will remain an Everton player.”

Everton to hold strong on Jarrad Branthwaite transfer stance

The Toffees must not be undermined by any of the clubs in the Premier League, but especially the “big six” teams in the division.

With Man United’s new signing, Yoro, now sidelined through injury for three months [Sky Sports], it could be a very real possibility that they attempt to sign another centre-back.

Given their recent history of attempting to claw Branthwaite away from Goodison Park, it is not unrealistic to think the Red Devils could return with a new offer.

Despite the takeover collapse earlier in the window, Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell have held strong with their transfer tactics, adding Jake O’Brien, Jesper Lindstrom, Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam to the squad.

However, fans will still be worried about Branthwaite’s future at the club, with reports suggesting that the player is refusing to put pen to paper on a new deal if he is not offered the £160,000-a-week that Man United offered [Daily Mail].
