Everton to be on alert after Scott McTominay transfer update at Manchester United
Everton and Sean Dyche have been busy ahead of the transfer deadline, but the Toffees still have one or two pieces of business on the agenda.
Most supporters would like to see the Blues secure another winger before the Premier League gets back underway and Dyche himself has admitted he would like to add some top-flight experience to his ranks.
While Kalvin Phillips’ name has been the one floated around Goodison Park in recent days by pundits and journalists alike [Joe Thomas, 5 August], a new update from Manchester United may have alerted interest Dyche and Kevin Thelwell.
According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth (6 August), Fulham are unlikely to return with a new bid for Scott McTominay before the end of the window, having been keen to bring the midfielder to Craven Cottage.
Marco Silva’s side have had two bids rejected for McTominay, the latest of which is believed to be in the region of £20million and there still remains a gap in the two clubs’ valuations.
Everton have shown little interest in joining the race for the United midfielder so far this summer, but it had previously been mentioned that they may hold an interest in the 27-year-old.
Reports from the Daily Mail (8 July) had suggested the Scottish international could emerge as a potential target for the Toffees, despite the fact the Red Devils are keen to keep him at Old Trafford.
Will Scott McTominay exit Manchester United amid Fulham transfer update?
With Fulham now seemingly out of the race for McTominay, Thelwell and Everton have been given a free run at his signature, assuming they do actually want to bring him to Goodison Park.
The relationship between the two sides has been tested in the summer transfer window as Erik ten Hag’s side have been linked with both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jarrad Branthwaite.
While the Toffees have shown little interest in allowing either player to depart Merseyside, they could look to include McTominay as a bargaining chip in any potential deal with the Red Devils.
Dyche’s side’s interest may have been little more than paper talk over the last few months, but this could be one to keep an eye on between now and the end of August.
