Everton transfer decision made as Atalanta target Beto as Gianluca Scamacca replacement

Everton are not interested in letting Beto leave to Atalanta despite their interest in him, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian outlet reported via their website on 7 August that in the obstacle to signing the Portuguesein their bid to find a replacement for the injured Gianluca Scamacca is the Toffees’ lack of interest in sanctioning an exit.

Roma’s Tammy Abraham is one of the other options, after he turned down the possibility of heading to Goodison Park this summer himself [Sky Sports Italia, 30 July], but a Beto deal looks to be off the table.

Tutto Atalanta had reported on 14 August that the Italian side were considering a bid of €20million [£17.2m], while Gazzetta dello Sport suggested on 7 August a swap deal could be offered involving former Toffees target El Bilal Touré.

Beto to stay at Everton amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin uncertainty

Purely off the basis of last season Sean Dyche might not be itching to get rid of Beto but open to a sale if it opened the door to another target.

The Portuguese showed he had ability but only scored five goals, with just three in the Premier League, although he was often coming off the bench behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

But with the Englishman’s contract expiring in less than a year and uncertainty over whether he will leave before the transfer deadline or not it would be risky to let Beto depart at this stage as well.

Youssef Chermiti had a strong preseason and looked like he was ready to make a proper step up as a first-team feature, but he then picked up a foot injury and is out for the foreseeable future.

Sales seem to be needed to offset purchases this summer and having already bought three players with the proceeds from Amadou Onana, Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey it may require more to leave if targets can be secured.

Tim Ireogbunam, Iliman Ndiaye, Jake O’Brien and the two loanees Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom are collectively decent business.

A striker could well depart as well and Armando Broja has be touted as the replacement from Chelsea [Mirror, 7 August], but it doesn’t look like it is expected to be Beto who goes.
