Everton face new points deduction as multi-million Premier League allegation made
Everton could be set for a third points deduction after the Premier League alleged a new profit and sustainability rules breach, according to Matt Hughes.
The journalist reported online on 10 August that the league have claimed the Toffees breached their PSR by £6.5million during the 2022/23 campaign, having already been found guilty of a £16m overspend.
A Premier League verdict in April resulted in the Blues being docked two points for their previous breach in 2022/23, which came after six (reduced from 10) were chalked off for similar charges in 2021/22.
The latest charges laid by the league allege that losses in 2022/23 were actually higher, with that £6.5m amount being used for day-to-day running costs at Goodison Park and interest payments related to their new stadium not included – the latter of which is being contested by the club.
Are Everton set for another season mired by points deductions?
The 2023/24 campaign was certainly one to remember at Goodison Park, but more so for all the drama which went on off the field, rather than their escape from relegation on it.
Sean Dyche’s side likely wouldn’t have even had to look over their shoulders for much of the campaign had they not lost eight points for the previous seasons’ PSR breaches, and would have finished 12th.

Sitting a pretty six places and 22 points above the relegation zone wasn’t to be though, with their two separate points deductions leaving the Toffees in the bottom three for large stretches of the season.
Escape they did though, and a strong summer of transfer business – signing the likes of impressive Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom – gave fans hope that the threat of points deductions was over.
However, they could now be back on the table – particularly with the Toffees contesting the Premier League’s latest £6.5m charge – and if they are dealt with another deduction, it will be a bitter pill for Dyche and his players to swallow.
