Friedkin Group update shared at Everton as fresh takeover reports emerge
The Friedkin Group are not currently considering a minority stake purchase of Everton, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Writing on their website [12 August], journalist Joe Thomas stated that reports that emerged earlier in the day that the Friedkin Group are targeting a 30 per cent stake in the club [Il Messaggero via LaRoma24] are wide of the mark.
John Textor, who owns 45 per cent of Crystal Palace, is in exclusive talks to take over at Everton [Alan Myers, 11 August] but his stake in Palace will be a stumbling block in negotiations.
“My understanding is that The Friedkin Group is not currently considering a minority stake in Everton,” Thomas wrote.
Everton takeover needs to be resolved sooner rather than later
Farhad Moshiri has struggled to get a deal over the line for Everton after the collapsed bids involving the Friedkin Group and 777 Partners. Still, the saga could be resolved soon with Moshiri needing to finalise a deal soon [Stefan Borson].
The Blues reportedly owe £600million in debt – a figure that will climb with interest payments. If Textor makes his interest concrete, he will have to repay the Friedkin Group their £200m investment into the club.
Everton fans will be sick and tired of hearing about their side’s exploits off the pitch as the 2024/25 Premier League season kicks off this weekend, but the supporters can be relieved that there is still significant interest in the club.
The precarious financial situation the Blues find themselves in is in no small measure down to Moshiri’s mismanagement of the club, and the sooner all parties part ways the better it will be for Everton.
Textor has a long-standing interest in the club and his tenure at Crystal Palace shows that he can steady the ship at Goodison Park, while helping them return to being a financially stable organisation.

There will be more twists and turns in this saga, but with Textor and the Friedkin Group both in the picture for the time being, it is becoming more likely that Everton will finally be taken over soon.
