John Textor signs Everton takeover paperwork with Farhad Moshiri with new developments
John Textor has signed Everton takeover paperwork with Farhad Moshiri to enter a period of exclusivity, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist reported via X on Thursday (15 August) that the American businessman has penned agreements with the Toffees and their current owner as he looks to pursue a potential takeover.
Whether or not the billionaire can complete his acquisition of Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison Park still depends on various factors, including his current stake in Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
Despite Ornstein’s latest update, a spokesperson for Moshiri declined to comment on the latest developments at Goodison Park when asked by The Athletic.
Will John Textor takeover Everton after Farhad Moshiri’s updates?
Everton supporters won’t be getting too excited just yet as they have been on this rollercoaster a couple of times over the last few seasons at Goodison Park.
Whether it be with the Friedkin Group or 777 Partners, Moshiri has entered periods of exclusivity with multiple different parties and so far it hasn’t developed into a completed takeover. Maybe this time, it will be different.
While this is a massive step in the right direction, there is still plenty of work to be done in the coming weeks for a deal to be completed and that will include Textor jumping through an awful lot of hoops.
First, he has to find somebody willing to acquire his 45 per cent stake at Selhurst Park, because the Premier League don’t allow one party to hold an ownership stake in two different clubs.
Even once that is done, there is the small matter of paying back the hundreds of millions of pounds worth of loans the Toffees owe to different companies.
Only when all of those boxes have been ticked can the American finally replace Moshiri. Yes, this update is positive, but a change of ownership is still a long way away on the blue half of Merseyside.
