Oliver Skipp update emerges as Everton aim to beat Leicester City to new transfer

Leicester are understood to be leading Everton and other clubs in the race to sign Oliver Skipp from Tottenham, according to HITC.

The news outlet reported on 18 August that the newly-promoted Premier League side are in talks with the Lilywhites over a £20million initial transfer with an additional £5million in add-ons.

Along with the Toffees, West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and Southampton want to secure the 24-year-old’s services.

Everton must not pay ridiculous fees to sign Oliver Skipp ahead of the transfer deadline

Skipp, despite his experience in the Premier League, has not consistently demonstrated the level of performance that would justify such a high transfer fee, especially for a club like the Toffees looking to optimise their financial outlay.

His recent game time and impact at Tottenham suggest he might not be the transformative presence Everton needs in midfield.

Instead, they could allocate this budget towards players who offer more immediate impact or potential for growth, aligning with their aspirations.

Investing in younger talents or players with a proven track record in key positions could offer better value for money, enhancing the squad’s depth and quality more effectively.

Moreover, the market often presents opportunities for players who might be undervalued or available at lower costs due to various club circumstances, which could be a wiser financial strategy for the Merseyside outfit.

While they do need a new midfielder this summer, Skipp just does not seem to be the option for them.
