Everton must get creative to seal Scott McTominay transfer at Manchester United

Everton need to “get creative” to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay before 30 August, according to The Athletic.

The online source reported [20 August] that the Toffees’ limited funds make it more difficult for a transfer to be completed at Goodison Park, with Fulham turning their attention away from the midfielder.

It is understood that Sean Dyche’s side are facing competition from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, with United valuing the player between £25million and £30million [The Telegraph].

Everton to strike deal for Scott McTominay?

Manchester United’s desire to rid of McTominay makes little sense, especially after the Scotland international’s performances at Euro 2024 this summer, but the Toffees will not be complaining.

The 27-year-old has made 254 appearances for the Red Devils since making his debut in 2017, as well as winning 52 caps for Scotland, and would add a lot of experience to Dyche’s squad.

Midfield seems to be where the Toffees are lacking going into the 2024/25 campaign, which was evident against Brighton on Saturday 17 August, with only Tim Iroegbunam and Idrissa Gana Gueye available.

James Garner is a superb talent, but yet to return from his injury sustained during pre-season, Everton’s lack of depth has already been exposed despite a plethora of new signings this summer.

Iroegbunam is the only midfield addition during the summer transfer window, a player who only made one Premier League start last term, so a deal for McTominay will be a must for many.

Due to McTominay’s keen eye for goal, arriving late into the penalty area, he would provide Dyche with a similar character to that of Amadou Onana, who has just left for Aston Villa.

Despite only being handed 18 starts in the league last season, the 27-year-old netted seven times, making him a huge boost in the final third if the Toffees can strike a deal.

In other Everton news, Alan Stubbs has urged the Toffees to sell one of Dyche’s regulars before the August 30 deadline.
