Everton now have clear run at Scott McTominay amid Fulham transfer development

Everton appear to have a clear run at signing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay with Fulham focusing on Burnley’s Sander Berge.

According to HITC journalist Graeme Bailey, the Cottagers have agreed terms to sign Berge and have decided against signing the Scotland international from the Manchester outfit.

The Athletic reported on 13 August that the Toffees made an enquiry for McTominay and with Fulham no longer in the race, they can look to convince the 27-year-old to move to Goodison Park.

Bailey wrote on X: ” Sources confirm that Fulham have agreed terms with Burnley for Sander Berge.

“The Cottagers are long-term admirers of the Norwegian and now they have turned back to him after deciding against proceeding with a move for Scott McTominay.”

Everton must waste no more time in the transfer pursuit of Scott McTominay

With Fulham’s interest in McTominay now shifted towards Berge, the Toffees have a strategic opportunity to secure the Manchester United midfielder.

They should leverage this by making a swift and competitive offer to Manchester United, capitalising on the 27-year-old’s desire for regular first-team football and his existing familiarity with the Premier League.

Given McTominay’s contract situation, where he has just one year left, Everton could negotiate a fee considering the player’s limited time left on his deal.

Sean Dyche’s interest in players who can offer physical presence and goal-scoring from midfield, like McTominay, should be highlighted in negotiations, showing how he fits into their tactical setup.

Additionally, the Goodison Park outfit could sweeten the deal with performance-related add-ons or sell-on clauses, making the transfer appealing for both Manchester United and McTominay, ensuring they meet financial expectations while also fulfilling the player’s career ambitions.

Signing another midfielder is important as the side got overrun against Brighton and cannot let that keep happening.
