Sean Dyche desperate for Dominic Calvert-Lewin Everton stay as Armando Broja goes begging

Sean Dyche is desperate for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to stay at Everton despite the striker not signing a new contract, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported via their website on 20 August that the England international has been offered a “sizeable” pay rise after entering the final 12 months of his deal but he has so far refused to agree to terms.

That makes a suddenly exit before the transfer deadline possible to Premier League clubs potentially looking to take advantage of the contract situation, with Manchester United reportedly still keeping tabs on his situation.

With Neal Maupay potentially leaving as well [L’Equipe, 20 August] a Calvert-Lewin exit would leave a “major void” in Sean Dyche’s squad, but interest in Chelsea’s Armando Broja as a replacement is no longer an option.

The Albanian international is set to join Ipswich on a loan-to-buy deal potentially worth over £30million, with a medical now due imminently [Fabrizio Romano, 20 August].

Chelsea do deal with Ipswich for Everton target

Dyche will soon be sick of the sight of Ipswich after Kieran McKenna’s side swooped in to do another deal for a player long coveted at Goodison Park.

If Calvert-Lewin does stay it will be a moot point as the Toffees aren’t expected to be able to move for a striker unless the number nine does go, and there are currently no takers [i News, 12 August].

But after seeing long-term midfield target Kalvin Phillips [Liverpool Echo, 14 August] head to Portman Road despite Everton talks over a move from Manchester City, and then potential alternative Jens Cajuste follow him, the promoted side seem to be derailing any plans Dyche had for the end of the window.

Broja was thought to be keen to join the Toffees if the opportunity presented itself [i News, 12 August] but he won’t be waiting around to find out if it does in the final days of the window.

Eddie Nketiah remains available from Arsenal and is said to have been emerging as an increasingly prominent Toffees target [TEAMtalk, 13 August].

But the Englishman won’t be cheap so is surely going to be a difficult signing even if Calvert-Lewin does leave.

This late in the window it is now looking like an exit for the top Everton striker would be extremely inconvenient, but if he isn’t signing a new deal the club may feel any half-decent offer is one they can’t refuse.
