Everton make approach to sign PSG ace Carlos Soler – Sky Sports journalist
Everton have “made contact” with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal to sign midfielder Carlos Soler this summer, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist posted on X (22 August), reporting that the Toffees have “concrete interest” in Soler, with the Spaniard having been on their list of potential transfers for some time.
Now, the Blues have reached out to PSG in pursuit of a transfer for the 27-year-old, with fellow Premier League side West Ham also keen on signing Soler before the 30 August transfer deadline.
PSG, who want to sell the Spanish international this summer, do not want to pursue a loan for Soler, with a permanent transfer bid or loan-to-buy deal more likely needed to bring him to Goodison Park.
Carlos Soler transfer could transform Everton attack
Despite Soler being heavily linked with a switch to West Ham, the 27-year-old pitching up at Goodison Park could have a groundbreaking impact on the way Sean Dyche sets up his side this season.
Despite signing attackers of the quality of Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom so far in this transfer window, the Blues boss still remains somewhat short of game-breaking options in the final third.
Ndiaye came off the bench in the number 10 role during the Toffees’ 3-0 opening-day defeat to Brighton on 17 August, but Lindstrom remained amongst the substitutes as Dyche side drew an unwanted blank.
If he’s to turn around his side’s poor start to the campaign, Dyche adding Soler – who can operate either out wide or in there number 10 role – should be seen as a must in the eyes of the Everton hierarchy.
It’ll be by no means easy, but if the Toffees can beat big-spending West Ham to a signing as high-profile as Soler’s, it’ll be a big statement for just how high Dyche wants to take his side this season.
In other Everton news, the Toffees could go back in for a highly-rated transfer target who wants to leave his current club.
