Paul Merson predicts Tottenham v Everton Premier League outcome in ‘outstanding’ verdict
Paul Merson has predicted “outstanding” Tottenham to beat Everton in their Premier League clash on Saturday [24 August].
The pundit backs Ange Postecoglu’s side to rectify their mistakes against Leicester City in the 1-1 draw on Monday [19 August] with a comfortable win against the Blues in North London.
Everton currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after matchday one, they suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at Goodison Park.
Merson gave his prediction for Sportskeeda [22 August] ahead of the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He said: “I thought Spurs were outstanding in the first half against Leicester. However, they did not put the game to bed and it cost them three points. It must have been a very disappointing result for Spurs. They have got to be consistent throughout the 90 minutes. At the moment, they play good only in patches during games and that has to change.
“If they had scored the second goal against Leicester, I think it could’ve been 4-0 or 5-0. Despite that disappointment, I’m backing Spurs to get a win even though it wouldn’t come easy. Everton can make it hard for them, but I just don’t see Tottenham missing that many chances again. Looks like it’ll be another long season for Sean Dyche’s Everton.
“Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Everton.”
Everton are heavy underdogs
Everton fans will not be expecting much when their side travels to North London on Saturday after a disappointing start to the season.
The Blues will be without Ashley Young who was sent off on the opening day against Brighton and will be forced to select a makeshift right-back or hand a Premier League debut to 19-year-old Roman Dixon.
Spurs ran out 2-1 winners in the reverse fixture last season before a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park and will need their shooting boots on to breach the Everton defence.
Dyche’s side is in danger of unravelling early into the new season and will face a tough opponent that can flick the switch at a moment’s notice and score a hatful of goals.

A well-fought loss rather than a hammering may be all that the supporters can hope for from their side but the match against Leicester will offer some hope.
At this stage into the new season, neither side looks at their best, if there’s ever a time for Everton to take points off Tottenham it is now, and for the Blues’ defence to return to what they do best and frustrate the opposition.
