Jordan Pickford drops howler as Roman Dixon impresses – Everton player ratings v Tottenham
Jordan Pickford had an afternoon to forget as Everton were beaten 4-0 by Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (24 August).
Yves Bissouma opened the scoring for the hosts with a wonder strike inside the opening 15 minutes.
Pickford gifted Spurs their second, his heavy touch under pressure from Son Heung-min allowing the South Korean to gain possession and roll the ball into an empty net.
Cristian Romero then headed home from a corner in the second half before Son wrapped up the scoring and rubbed more salt into the Toffees’ wounds.
Here, Goodison News rates the Everton players out of 10 for their performances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Jordan Pickford – 3
An absolute howler from Pickford as he was caught on the ball by Son which allowed the forward to snatch the ball off him and roll home into an empty net. Made a few impressive stops but his performance was completely overshadowed by his big mistake.
Vitalii Mykolenko – 5
Made a crucial block early in the second half as Brennan Johnson looked to pick out Son. Wasn’t at fault for any of the goals but also didn’t do much to impress.
Michael Keane – 5
Tried his best to keep a depleted Everton backline together but was completely overwhelmed by Spurs’ attackers who were pressing nonstop all afternoon.
James Tarkowski – 5
Similarly to Keane, he wasn’t necessarily at fault for any of Spurs’ goals, but when you’re part of a defence which concedes four goals it is hard to leave the pitch with your head held high.
Roman Dixon impresses on Everton debut against Tottenham
Roman Dixon – 7
Dealt well with Wilson Odobert during the first half, making a couple of impressive tackles while one-on-one with his winger. Perhaps helped by the fact that he was up against a 19-year-old Premier League debutant. However, as far as Everton debuts go, it was rather impressive, despite the scoreline.
Idrissa Gueye – 4
Didn’t offer anything going forward and was also unable to offer much protection to the defenders behind him. Overall, a day to forget for the experienced midfielder.
Tim Iroegbunam – 4
Looked lost at times during the contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Just like his fellow midfielders he was completely overran in the middle of the park and unable to gain any control in the match. Also gave away some sloppy fouls while being dispossessed on multiple occasions.
Abdoulaye Doucouré – 4
It would be difficult to blame supporters for not noticing the midfielder was even on the pitch. Completely overrun by Spurs’ midfielders before being taken off by Dyche early in the second half as part of a double substitution.
Dwight McNeil – 5
Just like his fellow attackers, he was completely anonymous, with Spurs’ defence hardly tested. Did well to last the entire match.
Jack Harrison – 5
Missed a big chance to level the match not long after Tottenham had taken the lead. Other than that one opportunity he had very little impact on the match before being hooked by Dyche early in the second half.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin nowhere to be seen for Everton against Tottenham
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 4
Completely anonymous throughout the match. The striker didn’t have a sniff in front of goal, although in his defence, the service toward the 27-year-old was pretty poor.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Jesper Lindstrøm (on for Harrison 57) – 5
Made an instant impact, testing Guglielmo Vicario with a rasping effort just moments after being introduced. However, the summer signing struggled to build on his bright start.
Iliman Ndiaye (on for Doucouré 57) – 4
Couldn’t get himself into the match.
Beto (on for Calvert-Lewin 72) – 3
Harrison Armstrong (on for Gueye 90) – N/A
