Newcastle line up late Dominic Calvert-Lewin bid as striker wants to leave Everton before deadline
Newcastle are considering a late bid to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton before the transfer window shuts, according to TBR Football.
The outlet reported via their website on 25 August that the striker wants to leave Goodison Park and has made it clear he will not sign a new deal.
Eddie Howe a “huge fan” an offer is on the cards from St. James’ Park to lift an “underwhelming” transfer window.
The two clubs discussed a deal for the England international earlier in the summer amid Toffees interest in Yakuba Minteh before talks broke down and the winger joined Brighton instead, but the Magpies are still interested from their end.
Eddie Howe wants Everton striker after Yakuba Minteh swap failed
Calvert-Lewin’s contract status has put him at risk of a sudden departure all summer as Everton are unlikely to be able to refuse a decent offer.
Bids have not been forthcoming so far and the number nine staying at Goodison Park therefore appeared most likely, but Sean Dyche admitted he couldn’t be certain of that [Guardian, 22 August] because of this exact possibility, despite reportedly being “desperate” to keep him [TEAMtalk, 20 August].
Whether Newcastle follow through with their plan, and whether the bid proves to be enough to convince the Toffees to let him go, is another matter.
But it will be tough for the club to turn down cash on the table and risk losing him for free next summer, especially after two uninspired performances so far this term.

Should he make an 11th-hour move to the North-East it could spark the Toffees into a swoop to take Armando Broja from Chelsea, with his move to Ipswich Town looking set to collapse [Jacob Steinberg, 24 August].
But amid talks with Marseille over letter Neal Maupay leave, and additional interest from Brentford [Foot Mercato, 24 August], it could still be a risk to let a pair of strikers walk even if they can land the Albanian international from Stamford Bridge.
