Alan Myers drops ‘damaging’ Everton verdict after fan footage emerges

Alan Myers has responded to the “damaging” Everton footage that emerged on social media on Sunday [25 August].

The Blues suffered a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday [24 August] to mark their second consecutive loss of the 2024/25 season and currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table.

SomeEverton supporters were seen in a video posted online verbally abusing players as they were boarding a train out of London.

The uploaded footage was posted by The 44 on X [25 August] prompting Myers to issue his response on his own X account [26 August].

He said: “I don’t claim to talk for Evertonians, I don’t claim to have the answers, I just try to bring people together when I see things that are damaging to the club, I understand the frustration because I feel it too. I just want us all to take stock, club and fans, think of Everton FC.”

Everton supporters need to rally behind their team

The footage is a bad look for Everton football club and tells the story of a team and fanbase divided only two games into the new Premier League season.

All football fans can understand the frustration of watching your side put in a sub-par performance but hurling abuse at the players representing the club is never the answer.

Everton fans have every right to be infuriated with the team, against Tottenham they were beaten by the superior side by all accounts but against Brighton & Hove Albion the players looked like they had other places to be in the 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park.

The footage was the result of pent-up anger from problems abiding by Profit and Sustainability rules, the ongoing fiasco of the takeover, and underwhelming performance, and travelling to London to witness another loss was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Sean Dyche now has a monumental task ahead of him in the coming days to strengthen his side with limited resources ahead of the 30 August deadline before entertaining Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday [31 August].

It might only represent the third game of the new Premier League season, but the Bournemouth clash has become a must-win game for Everton to restore peace with the fanbase.
