Everton hold talks with Chelsea to seal deadline-busting David Datro Fofana loan

Everton are in discussions with Chelsea over the loan signing of striker David Datro Fofana, according to TEAMtalk.

Writing on their website [26 August], the news outlet reported that the Blues view Fofana as the ideal replacement for Neal Maupay with Marseille pursuing a deal for the French forward [David Ornstein].

The 21-year-old spent the first half of last season at Union Berlin in the Bundesliga before finishing the season back in England with relegated Burnley.

While Maupay awaits a move to Ligue 1, the Toffees’ pursuit of a striker this summer raises the question of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future with the club.

Sean Dyche admitted that the English striker could leave Goodison Park before the 30 August deadline [Daily Mail] and the arrival of a new forward could spell the end of his time on Merseyside.

It seems that every available cut-price striker under the sun has been linked with a move to Goodison Park this summer, Barcelona forward Vitor Roque emerged as the most sought-after candidate but has since completed a loan move to Real Betis.

Everton have failed to score in either of their opening two fixtures in the 2024/25 Premier League season and have shipped seven goals as they sit at the foot of the league table.

Dyche is under immense pressure at the Blues at the start of the season as tension spills over between the club and the supporters.

Everton need a result against Bournemouth on Saturday [31 August] to ease the concerns of an increasingly anxious fanbase and a goal scorer to help turn their fortunes around this season.

Fofana hardly set the world alight for Burnley, but four goals and one assist in 15 Premier League appearances, averaging a goal contribution every three games is a promising output.

The Ivorian may not be top of the wishlist for supporters this summer but with finances tight, Everton will need to get creative if they want to bolster the forward line.
