Everton news confirmed amid development in Kieran Trippier and Gonzalo Montiel chase
Everton will prioritise a move for Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier over Sevilla right-back Gonzalo Montiel, according to TEAMtalk journalist Harry Watkinson.
The news outlet carried a story on 26 August claiming that the Toffees’ interest in Montiel, 27, is genuine but he is not atop their wishlist.

Watkinson wrote: “The LaLiga side are prepared to grant this wish but want a permanent sale rather than another loan for him, and we understand they will demand around £9million for him.
“TEAMtalk can confirm that Everton are interested in Montiel but nothing is advanced at this stage, with Trippier still the preferred option.”
Everton must focus on bringing Kieran Trippier to Goodison Park
It makes sense for the Toffees to prioritise the Newcastle ace as his Premier League experience is invaluable.
He’s proven at this level, understanding the league’s intensity and style, which reduces adaptation time.
His leadership and defensive skills were pivotal at Newcastle, and previously at Tottenham, showcasing his consistency.
Trippier’s versatility to play both as a right-back and provide cover at left-back adds tactical flexibility for Everton, crucial given their current defensive injury crisis.
Moreover, his set-piece prowess and crossing ability offer an additional offensive dimension, enhancing Everton’s attack from wide areas.

While Montiel has international experience, he wasn’t among the top performers on loan at Nottingham Forest, while Trippier has excelled at every club he’s been at.
