Everton told Gonzalo Montiel price as breakthrough made to seal transfer

Everton have learnt it will take £9million to secure the services of Sevilla midfielder Gonzalo Montiel ahead of the 30 August deadline, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet reported on 26 August that nothing is advanced with regard to the Toffees’ transfer pursuit of the 27-year-old World Cup winning right-back with Argentina.

Everton will need to sell players to raise funds for Gonzalo Montiel

The Toffees’ financial issues have been well documented and any major acquisitions will require money flowing into the coffers.

Neal Maupay, Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all been linked with the exit door and their departures before the 30 August deadline cannot be ruled out.

Even two of them leaving would bring in funds that Sean Dyche’s side can use to sign Montiel, a new central midfielder and potentially another attacker if Calvert-Lewin does end up going.

Montiel’s signing would make a lot of sense as he would not only bring quality through the door but also the winning mentality that’s lacking inside the dressing room.

Goodison Park is not the fortress it once was and making signings like the World Cup winner would certainly help lift the spirits.

It’s going to be a busy few days for Kevin Thelwell and co and it remains to be seen if they can do what the fans want and bring in quality through the door.
