Everton transfer news as Kieran Trippier update emerges after Newcastle v Bournemouth
Eddie Howe has revealed, after the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, that he is desperate to keep Kieran Trippier at Newcastle amid links to Everton.
The Chronicle quoted the Magpies boss on 25 August and mentioned the fact that the Toffees and Atalanta are keen on signing the England international before the transfer deadline.
The 33-year-old is understood to be pushing for an exit [Telegraph, 22 August] but it appears that he’s still highly rated at St James’ Park.
Howe said: “He really helped us today. He calmed things down and used his experience. He gave us a renewed threat with Anthony down our right hand side. I love Kieran as a footballer and always have. I have managed him twice and I am very lucky to do so. I am desperate to keep him.”
Everton target Kieran Trippier appears to want out of Newcastle
The exit speculation appears to be coming from Trippier’s end as he perhaps want to leave for more game time.
Given the emergence of Timo Livramamento, the 33-year-old has found himself being the second choice at St James’ Park.
It’s understood that he’s even put his house up for sale [iNews, 22 August] and that’s not a sign of someone who’s happy with his current conditions.
Whether or not a move to Goodison Park tempts him, remains to be seen, but Howe’s comments suggest he wants him to stay on and be the second choice option.
It’s evident that if he joins, he will be the first-choice right-back as Nathan Patterson is a long-term injury absentee, Seamus Coleman is also facing issues with his fitness and Ashley Young, while not injury-prone, has been extremely inconsistent.

Trippier also offers an option at left-back and is a set-piece specialist – something that Sean Dyche will admire as well.
