John Textor takeover at Everton expected to collapse in new finance update

John Textor’s chances of completing a takeover at Everton are “low”, according to The Esk.

The Crystal Palace co-owner has already confirmed his interest in becoming the new owner of the Toffees, though there is no indication that a deal is close on Merseyside [The Mirror on Sunday, 11 August].

With the businessman unable to own more than a 9.9 per cent share at Selhurst Park before taking over at Goodison Park, it is understood that Textor is currently considering two offers for his 45 per cent stake [The Guardian].

Despite this, The Esk took to X on Monday (26 August) and was asked the likelihood of Textor completing a takeover, to which he responded: “Sadly, as it stands low.”

It comes after the Everton finance expert delved a little deeper into the numbers behind a possible takeover.

John Textor takeover expected to collapse in new update at Everton

Just when fans were starting to believe that the takeover situation could be solved at Goodison Park soon, another spanner has been thrown into the works, casting more uncertainty over the club.

It seems like an age has passed since Dan Friedkin’s collapsed takeover earlier this summer, though the same concerns have stayed with the passionate fanbase as Farhad Moshiri searches for a new buyer.

There is already a fair share of scepticism surrounding Textor and his ownership at other clubs, owning Botafogo in Brazil, RWD Molenbeek in Belgium and Lyon in France, but the Toffees have limited options.

A third points deduction already looks to be heading the way of Goodison Park, as per Matt Hughes, and fans just want to know their club is safe to fight another day in England’s top division.

While the 2024/25 campaign has already kicked off, there is still an overshadowing fear about the future of Everton Football Club, and the more recent updates surrounding Textor will do nothing to alleviate it.

With Moshiri keen to depart his post at Goodison Park, he needs to speed up the process and find a party that can comfortably complete the takeover needed to save the Toffees.
