Neal Maupay hits back at Everton supporters over incident after loss v Tottenham
Everton striker Neal Maupay has hit back at some supporters after an incident following the Toffees’ defeat to Tottenham.
Sean Dyche’s side’s winless start to the Premier League season continued with a 4-0 defeat to Spurs on Saturday (24 August) and frustrations have begun to bubble over among parts of the fanbase.
Footage emerged on social media of a handful of supporters screaming abuse at the Toffees as they arrived back from North London and Maupay has slammed the actions of the couple of ‘fans’.
Writing on X on Monday (26 August) he said: “Imagine another job where it’s normalised to get abuse like this.
“Hanging around at a train station to scream at men who are trying their best…”
Will Neal Maupay exit Everton amid Goodison Park transfer rumours?
While Maupay may not be the most popular figure at Goodison Park, the majority of Everton supporters will be in agreement that the Frenchman is bang on the money when it comes to his view of this situation.
Yes, the Blues have been incredibly poor in the opening weeks of the season, but there is no doubt that these players are trying their best to change their fortunes even if that isn’t always clear on the pitch.
Ultimately, it shouldn’t have become the normal thing to abuse players in this manner, whether that be on social media or in person. The actions of these few so-called supporters are not only ridiculous but embarrassing for the wider fanbase.
Maupay will always draw attention for his outspoken persona and while occasionally the striker can go too far, in this situation he is correct. However, his future on Merseyside remains unclear beyond the next couple of days.
Several clubs are reportedly interested in securing the Frenchman’s signature before the 30 August deadline, with Brentford understood to be interested in bringing him back to the capital [Foot Mercato, 24 August].
