Calvert-Lewin late Chelsea sale possible as Everton temptation shared

Everton would be more open to selling Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Chelsea if offered more money, rather than a player in exchange, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Joe Thomas reported this via the newspaper’s website (30 August, 13:59) that Everton are not fans of David Fofana, who the Blues are supposedly willing to offer in a player-plus-cash deal.

The Toffees would have been more open to discussing a deal for Armando Broja, but that now looks off the cards, otherwise only more money will tempt the club into a late sale for DCL.

Everton should let Dominic Calvert-Lewin go before the deadline

Although on paper it might seem to be counter-productive for the Toffees to consider selling Calvert-Lewin before the deadline, when the fact that his contract expires at the end of the season is taken into account, it makes a lot of sense.

Should the club and player fail to reach an agreement in terms of a contract extension, Sean Dyche will run the risk of losing their star man on a free transfer.

So, whilst there are clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal [Caught Offside, 27 August] interested in taking the 27-year-old off their hands for a fee, it feels as if it should be something that’s at least considered by the Merseyside outfit.

And, judging from his form last term, the sale of Calvert-Lewin could be quite a positive thing for the club.

Only time will tell what the future holds for the attacker, but, one thing is for sure, Dyche will want to do everything in his power to prevent the striker from leaving on a free transfer come the end of the season.

That said, this would only make sense if a late arrival is lined up to fill the void left by Calvert-Lewin. Given the time of day, that now seems very unlikely.
