Everton stance on late Dominic Calvert-Lewin player-plus-cash swap deal with Chelsea emerges

Everton have shown little willingness to engage in a player-plus-cash swap deal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana, according to Ben Jacobs.

The sports broadcaster reported via X on Friday (30 August) that Enzo Maresca’s side have held talks with the Toffees over a last-minute move for the England international as a backup to Victor Oshimen.

Chelsea had been willing to offer Fofana as part of a deal to secure the Toffees frontman, but so far, Sean Dyche’s side have shown little desire to negotiate with Chelsea before the window slams shut at 11pm on Friday 30 August.

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Chelsea transfer rumours?

Everton will be desperate to not lose Calvert-Lewin so close to the transfer deadline, but the Blues will know that they are running the risk of allowing him to leave as a free agent when his contract expires next summer.

Of course, there is still a chance that he could put pen to paper on an extension at Goodison Park. So far, however, there has been very little suggestion the forward is at all interested in penning new terms on Merseyside.

On paper, Fofana would be an interesting addition to Dyche’s side. The 21-year-old has yet to hit the heights expected of him in the Premier League, but he did show moments of promise during a loan spell with Burnley last term.

Perhaps a permanent move to Goodison Park would provide him with the platform to finally fulfil his potential in England. At the moment though, it doesn’t seem as though Everton are at all interested in such a deal.

Things can change at the drop of the hat at this stage of the summer, but it seems unlikely this swap deal will be completed before the transfer window slams shut.
