Everton seal late swoop for £30m Armando Broja deal with Chelsea after double-transfer collapse

Everton have completed the signing of Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea after the close of the transfer window.

The Toffees announced the striker’s arrival on a temporary move with a permanent option at 1.55am on 31 August, nearly three hours past the 11pm deadline on 30 August.

Sky Sports had reported on their website late on Deadline Day that a deal sheet had gone in to give the two clubs extra time to complete the deal, with the permanent option worth £30million.

The Toffees swooped after Broja’s revived move to Ipswich Town failed for a second time, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin was not involved.

Everton capitalise after Ipswich move breaks down

Sean Dyche has got his striker support after a dramatic end to the transfer window as the Toffees took advantage of Broja’s switch to Portman Road failing for the second time.

After losing out on Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste to Kieran McKenna the Everton boss might feel he got one back.

The 22-year-old Albanian international had originally been set for a loan with a £30m obligation to Ipswich but has an injury that caused the deal to fall through [BBC Sport, 29 August], before being revived unsuccessfully in the final hours.

He will therefore not immediately be available to Dyche, who saw Neal Maupay leave for Marseille on Deadline Day.

But despite talks with Chelsea around a move for Calvert-Lewin to head to Stamford Bridge which saw Broja and David Datro Fofana offered on loan in return [HITC, 30 August] the Englishman has stayed at Goodison Park.

Unless he signs a new contract in the ensuing months he may be a prime candidate to leave in the January window, to avoid a free transfer exit next summer.

Broja was joined by Lyon midfielder Orel Mangala as the final arrivals of a busy Everton transfer window.
