Everton free agent update emerges with Dele Alli and others available after transfer deadline
Everton only have one free agent that they may sign following the close of the transfer window, according to Alan Myers.
Responding to a supporter via X on 2 September the Sky Sports journalist suggested Dele Alli is the only name who would be added to the squad past the deadline, and any other outside possibilities are unlikely.
The Athletic reported on 23 August that the 28-year-old is likely to land a one-year deal if he can prove his fitness in the coming weeks, although there is believed to be rival interest from Lille [Sky Sports, 30 August].
Myers wrote when asked who is available: “Dele, for one there’s a few but I wouldn’t expect any coming in tbh (except maybe the aforementioned)”.
Sean Dyche unlikely to make any surprise Everton signings
Defeats to Brighton and Tottenham to open the campaign were miserable for fans but came from games where an injury-hit Everton side didn’t put up a proper fight.
They could be passed off as bad days at the office against two strong sides, and Sean Dyche’s record of steering the club to safety last term after a bad start was a reason for optimism.
There is going to be far more concern after the Bournemouth loss thanks to the manner of how Everton snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after leading 2-0 in the 87th minute.
Injury absences so far have hamstrung Dyche and the squad, and illustrated the lack of depth despite a decent transfer window.
Indications point to Dele joining and working to something of a comeback after over a year out, and if he can get even half way back to his best he should be an asset with Dyche hoping for a “spectacular revival” [Liverpool Echo, 12 July].
But with Iliman Ndiaye already starting to make the attacking midfield role his own and Tim Ireogbunam the brightest spark from the transfer window in central midfield Dele’s areas of influence probably aren’t where help is most needed.
Either way it is unlikely the club would have gone through the bother of renegotiating their deal to sign him from Tottenham originally [The Athletic, 12 July] if they didn’t have concrete intentions to bring him back, so there should be one further addition to the squad at some point.
In other Everton news, according to David Ornstein the Toffees managed to get “favourable” terms out of a league rival before the transfer deadline.
