Sofyan Amrabat to Everton transfer details shared amid Manchester United twist

Everton explored a possible deal for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in the final days of the summer transfer window, according to Alex Crook.

The journalist wrote on the radio station’s website [3 September] that Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was blocked from signing Amrabat by the club with the Blues looking to take advantage of the situation.

A late move for the Morocco international failed to materialise and the 28-year-old has since moved to Fenerbahce on loan from Fiorentina.

Everton were right not to pursue a move for Sofyan Amrabat

Sean Dyche made the right decision not to pursue a move for Amrabat. The Blues boss wanted more Premier League experience in his side approaching the 30 August deadline but that is never necessarily a good indicator of a player’s quality.

The Blues would not have been signing the Amrabat who impressed for Morocco in the 2022 World Cup and, despite lifting the FA Cup in his spell with Man United last term, he hardly set the league alight with his performances at Old Trafford.

A move for Lyon midfielder Orel Mangala was a wise choice. The 26-year-old has experience on English shores with Nottingham Forest, and while he was a bit-part player in France last season, his impressive performances in the Premier League led to his move to the Ligue 1 side in the first place.

Dyche will need to use the international break to integrate the new midfielder into the side – after three consecutive Premier League defeats it’s time for a change at Goodison Park.

Kevin Thelwell has backed the Blues boss this summer despite the financial restrictions and Dyche has to utilise the new players at his disposal to help overturn his side’s fortunes in the league.
