Everton in prime position to sign Kieran Trippier in January as Sky Sports update emerges
Everton will have to wait until January to solve their critical right-back problem but Kieran Trippier now looks to be a concrete option.
Ashley Young has already been shown a red card, being sent for an early shower in the 3-0 loss to Brighton, with Seamus Coleman picking up a new injury while away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.
With Nathan Patterson still recovering from his respective injury, and Roman Dixon’s call-up against Tottenham likely to be a one-off, Sean Dyche is caught between a rock and a hard place.
It was clear that the Toffees wanted to bring in a new full-back before the transfer window slammed shut on August 30, with Newcastle’s Trippier among the targets for a loan deal [David Ornstein].
Dyche and Kevin Thelwell may be given a second opportunity to land his signature in January, who was dubbed an “absolute soldier” by Gareth Southgate [Northern Echo], especially following Sky Sports’ update surrounding the Turkish transfer window.
Everton to sign Kieran Trippier in January?
Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday (10 September) that four clubs in Turkey have given up in their hopes to sign the veteran defender.
It is said that Eddie Howe wants to keep him at St James’ Park for now.
With the Turkish clubs having the door slammed in their faces, the Toffees must seize the opportunity and secure Trippier’s signature once the January window opens up.
While he will do little to lower the average of Dyche’s right-backs, his incredible amount of experience could be worth its weight in gold as the Toffees look set for another season of struggle.
That struggle will be made much harder if they cannot bring in a new full-back to help Young and Coleman.
In other Everton news, one pundit was concerned by what he saw a Toffees star do during the international window.
