Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds name-dropped as John Textor’s Everton plans come to light
Bryan King has pointed to the success of Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as John Textor’s Everton takeover plans come to light.
The ex-Goodison scout claims that Textor will need to invest his money wisely if he wants to be successful with the Toffees.
As exclusively revealed by Goodison News (8 September), Textor plans to invest heavily in the Everton squad if he completes a takeover at Goodison Park.
And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has referenced Reynolds and McElhenney at Wrexham as an example of a recent takeover done right.
“Firstly, he needs to get rid of his Crystal Palace shares, that is the first thing,” King said.
“He can’t sit on two boards. When you invest in one club, you either have to sell that investment and move on to the club you want to buy, or you stay with your club and see how it unfolds.
“Anybody who is going to buy a football club wants success. Just look at what has happened with Reynolds and McElhenney at Wrexham. When they bought the club they didn’t know where it was but there was a possibility that it could be successful at that level.
“They’ve had two promotions, and it looks as though they could end up in the Championship the way they’re going, in three or four years, it is another Luton Town situation.
“Textor is no different to anybody else, he would want success, and the only way to get success is to invest your money wisely. Farhad Moshiri has not invested his money wisely.
“Everton have two away games coming up, which is not easy. After five games they could be on zero points, which is a big fear.”
John Textor to complete Everton takeover at Goodison Park?
As reported by the Guardian on Tuesday (10 September), Textor is confident of agreeing a deal to buy Everton from Moshiri within the next four weeks.
Supporters will certainly hope that is the case and that the takeover process is moving along nicely behind the scenes.

However, even if Textor does purchase Everton and invests heavily in the squad, he will need to be careful.
The Toffees have proven in the past that spending big doesn’t always lead to success. Therefore, Textor will need to ensure he spends well on Merseyside.
