Alan Shearer predicts result of Aston Villa v Everton clash in ‘tough’ verdict
Alan Shearer has predicted another loss for Everton in a “tough” clash against Aston Villa on Saturday [14 September].
The Toffees have lost all three league fixtures this season and sit at the foot of the Premier League table after the international break.
Sean Dyche needs a result at Villa Park after the shock 3-2 loss against Bournemouth at Goodison Park, but is expected to suffer a long afternoon against Unai Emery.
“It’s another tough one for Everton. Their confidence must be really, really low after what happened against Bournemouth last time out,” Shearer predicted for Metro [13 September].
“It will have been a long international break for them, and I think that’ll continue. I don’t see them getting anything out of the game, so I’ll go for a home win.”
Sean Dyche needs to find a way for Everton
This time last season, Everton were in a similar position under Dyche but managed to find their form midway through the campaign, and secured a comfortable mid-table finish 14 points clear of the relegation places.
Kevin Thelwell performed well with his limited resources to provide the Blues with the necessary additions in key positions to build on last year’s efforts. However, after three matches all sense of optimism has disappeared from Goodison Park.
The collapse against Bournemouth is the epitome of Everton. They are criticised for not scoring enough goals and, once they do, it’s still not enough to get all three points. Fingers should be pointed in the dressing room with 10 goals conceded in three matches.

Iliman Ndiaye was a shining light and showed glimmers of what he can offer at Everton in the loss, and he will be vital to the Blues getting a result at Villa Park.
With Jarrad Branthwaite confirmed out and Seamus Coleman likely to miss the match, the odds are stacked against the Toffees. They will have to rely on the underperforming Michael Keane and one of Ashley Young or Roman Dixon to stop the Aston Villa attack.
Dyche produced a masterstroke last season with the 2-0 win against Liverpool and his side will need to replicate the same level of performance to stand a chance of besting Emery.
