Dean Saunders shares strange reason why Everton boss Sean Dyche is so unfancied

Dean Saunders has “total respect” for the job Sean Dyche has done at Everton despite their struggles so far this season.

Speaking on TalkSPORT with Alan Brazil (13 September, 6:30am), Saunders praised Dyche for keeping the club in the Premier League last season, which came in the wake of an eight-point deduction.

Dyche’s side have lost their first three games of the new campaign, but Saunders argued that the 53-year-old deserves more respect for what he’s done at several clubs amid difficult circumstances.

He said: “I’ve got total respect for Sean Dyche after watching his career. He’s never had a good job – think about it, he’s never walked into a good job.

“[Everton have] big expectations and he’s struggling. [There’s] problems behind the scenes; 10 point deduction? He keeps them up.

“He’s working with no tools, and he just digs in – and never gets a mention for the big clubs because he’s ginger and his name is Sean!”

Sean Dyche to see out the season at Everton?

His first name and hair colour are hardly likely to pay a crucial part in answering this question, but it’s clear that changing circumstances on and off the field have clouded Dyche’s future at Goodison Park.

With zero points on the board after three games of the new season, there is an argument for relieving Dyche of his duties despite his heroics in the previous campaign.

The impending takeover of John Textor also looms in the background, and this could also spell trouble for Dyche if the American wants a change in direction on the managerial front [Miguel Delaney, 12 September].

With reports of a potential successor already lined up [Alan Nixon, 8 September], Dyche will quickly need to turn the Blues’ form around if he’s to still be in post if and when Textor does take charge on Merseyside.

Dyche’s instillation of a siege mentality helped keep the Toffees in the top flight amid their two points deductions last season, and it remains to be seen if he’ll be given the same chance this time around.
