Jamie Carragher makes new Sean Dyche sack claim in Everton relegation prediction
Jamie Carragher believes this season will be Sean Dyche’s last at Everton but that the Toffees boss will again keep them up.
Writing in his column in The Telegraph [13 September], boyhood supporter Carragher has described Dyche’s reign at Goodison Park as one which is tolerated rather than acclaimed, with the notion it could be worse but better.
The former England defender is confident Everton will remain in the Premier League under Dyche, and that for the club to sack him would still be the wrong decision if they were to remain pointless in the Premier League after the next two games against Aston Villa and Leicester City.
Carragher took to X [13 September] to reinforce his view when sharing the column, adding: “Sean Dyche will keep Everton up again this season.
“But I think this will be his last season at the club, there is plenty of respect from the fans for the job he’s done but not much love. It’s a marriage of convenience.”
Have Everton and Sean Dyche gone as far as they can?
The external consensus with Everton is that the club are in the predicament they are despite Dyche, rather than from any negative contribution of his own.
The boardroom fiasco – not helped by John Textor’s comments on Dyche’s coaching style which Carragher in the column brands “bizarre” – alongside a fragmented belief system in the squad appear to be outranking Dyche in that regard.
The manager has long been pragmatic and organised when the odds are stacked against him, a reason for his continued celebration 50 miles up the road in Burnley.

But if there is one thing his Toffees team have certainly not been in the opening three league games, it is just that. And Dyche has been long enough in the game to know where the buck stops.
Whether the positive end to last term shows he can in fact take this team further despite the obvious hurdles, it remains to be seen, but the “marriage of convenience” appears borne out of the idea that there aren’t many alternatives who could do any better at this moment in time.
